Dear Aunty Sheila, Reantha, and family,
My heart is so heavy at the news of Uncle Kugan’s passing, and I want to extend my deepest sympathies to you all. Words feel so small in a moment like this, yet I hope they bring you even a little comfort.
From as early as I can remember, Uncle Kugan has been a shining light in our family. Whether in Silverglen, Chatsworth, or at family gatherings, he was always the one who brought joy, laughter, and energy. His smile was infectious, his zest for life unstoppable, and his love for family immeasurable. With him, there were never dull moments, only warmth, laughter, and love.
I count myself blessed to have grown up knowing him and to have spent so many happy times with my cousins, surrounded by the love he helped create. Those memories have shaped me, teaching me the value of family, love, and kindness. My last memory of him at my wedding in 2014 is one I will cherish. I remember how stressed my mum was with all the preparations, and how Uncle Kugan gently reassured her, saying she must not worry because he was there. That moment captured exactly who he was, a pillar of strength, a source of comfort, and someone who made you feel safe in his presence.
Though I could not be there in person during this sad time, I joined in spirit and felt so moved watching the funeral service from afar. Seeing so many family members, traveling from near and far, was such a powerful testament to how deeply Uncle Kugan was loved and cherished. It was comforting to see you surrounded by family and loved ones. While it was a gathering of sorrow, it was also a reminder that you are held by a circle of love and care. In times like these, we lean on one another for strength—just as Uncle Kugan always encouraged us to do.
The tributes and testimonies shared about him were some of the most beautiful I have ever heard. They painted a picture of a man who was truly a blessing to all who knew him. The impact he had on people’s lives, the joy and light he spread wherever he went, and the way he left no room for darkness, these reflect the same memories I carry.
Aunty Sheila and Reantha, please know that you are in my thoughts. I mourn with you. as my mum said to me today, we should also celebrate the incredible life of Uncle Kugan who gave so much of himself to others. I pray that the love of family and friends, and the beautiful memories of Uncle Kugan, bring you strength and comfort in some way and form.
